Fortunate Souls is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of community cats through education, outreach, and direct support. We work tirelessly to provide resources for caregivers and advocate for the well-being of cats in the community.

You can help community cats in several ways! Start by educating yourself on responsible cat care and TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) practices. Get in touch with local TNR & rescue organizations, provide food and shelter, or even foster cats in need. Donations of supplies or funds are always appreciated, allowing us to expand our programs and reach more cats who need assistance.

If you find a stray cat, assess its condition first. If the cat appears healthy, it is likely the cat has a home & is being cared for. If it seems injured, sick or does not return home, contact your local animal rescue for assistance. It's essential to check for a microchip, as this could lead you to the owner. Post on social media especially any local groups to get the word out. The cat is more likely to be reunited with its family if it stays in the area so consider fostering for a day or 2 while you search for the owners.

We always recommend first trying your local animal shelters as they are normally contracted to take strays in your area. If you have reached out to them but they currently do not have room, we can assist as long as space allows. We partner with animal shelters & other rescue organizations to take in stray cats once we have gotten them fixed & vaccinated, as long as they have room for them.

If you come upon a cat colony, the first step is to determine if the colony has a caretaker. Some colonies are already managed by a caretaker who provides food, water and shelter for the colony. A responsibly caretaker will also Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) their colony to prevent the increase of the cat population. If they have not, consider educating the caretaker about TNR & providing them with information for local spay/neuter programs.

If the colony does not have a caretaker, reach out to local animal rescues on information and assistance for the colony.
